"The journey to reach this milestone has not been easy. Unfortunately, the initial contractor encountered significant challenges, which resulted in delays that extended the project timeline to nearly 26 months, twice as long as we had originally anticipated. Despite these obstacles, our dedicated engineers, technicians, and construction teams have shown remarkable perseverance and commitment.
We are proud to announce that Phase One of the rehabilitation is complete and will be open to vehicles starting September 12th. This phase involved the meticulous rebuilding of a 450-meter stretch of roadway and service tunnel. The work included upgrades to the stormwater drainage system, the installation of new traffic signals, and the creation of a durable brick-paved surface designed to withstand heavy foot traffic. Most importantly, the tunnel now features critical ventilation shafts and advanced gas-venting mechanisms to prevent any future accumulation of methane. #LillianNgoyiStreet #FixMyJozi #ReimagingJoburg #JoburgRoads #JRA"
