City of Johannesburg: Bree Street reopening slated for today

After 26 months of repair work, which is double the initially projected timeframe, the city said it's now ready to reopen the street.

The major corridor, formerly known as Bree Street, has been closed for more than two years following a massive underground gas explosion that left parts of the road severely damaged.

This news came as a relief to all motorists and pedestrians who have to navigate through alternative road networks to get to wherever they might need to be.

During the renovations period, the people who live in the CBD (Centr Business District) have to deal with a great deal of noises from heavy-duty machines and no one is paying for the massive inconveniences this has brought to the for the past 26 months.

There must be a level of responsibility not only to fix the road but the wellness of the people that live along this street. The city must prepare to fix the ear buds on its residents soon.
